Activate the Crater is a proposal that won the ideas competition for the urban park of Playa Honda, in the municipality of San Bartolomé on the island of Lanzarote.

It is an urban regeneration project for an area of 7 ha on the coastal line of Playa Honda, which is a high density residential centre near the airport and is close to the capital and the main tourist centres of the island.

Activate the Crater is born as a reflection on the volcanic landscape of Lanzarote. Due to the proximity of the site to the airport the concept allowed us to create a very recognisable aerial view, on the other hand mimicking the shape of a crater generates sheltered spaces, ideal for comfortable living areas. In concept it is the same method the farmers of Lanzarote use protect their vineyards in holes dug in the ground and wrapped with vegetation, we provide shade and protection for the living areas.

It consists of a series of craters of varying sizes spanning throughout the urban park, each crater housing a different use. In the valley area between the craters there is a large water feature, which allows rainwater to be stored and later used for irrigation. The main network of paths is laid out in the area of the lake between the craters. The topography allows us to separate ourselves from the airport and also generate different points of view in the park. It is a space with great diversity of situations and interesting to be walked through.

The Park is connected to the promenade of Playa Honda through the new proposed Plaza Guacimeta which was made pedestrian, thus widening the promenade towards the urban fabric of Playa Honda and generating a reference space for the town.
