TB_house is a private home located in Aravaca, a residential area on the outskirts of Madrid. Despite being a densely urbanised area, as the house is right on the perimeter of the urbanisation very close to the Pardo Mountain, it conveys the sensation of being in a natural setting.

The Toboggan House is an original three-storey house built by generating a cut in the terrain through two concrete walls where the basement floor is located and on which rests a lighter structure containing the other two floors.

This project seeks to recreate a natural landscape on the mountainside on which the cylinders that shape the dwelling emerge, while using the indentation between the walls to create more intimate gardens with the vocation of living areas to support the dwelling.

The perimeter garden has a wild appearance that blends in perfectly with the surrounding landscape. Various wild granite boulders are interspersed between a series of plantings that mix perennials and grasses where there is barely a dirt-like path leading to and from the house, as well as small pedestrian paths embedded in the landscape. The design of this space is very organic, naturalised and mostly using natural materials from the area. More than 50 varieties of plants were used, which provide colour, texture and movement to the whole garden, as well as attracting many insects in spring and summer. It is a lively and dynamic garden full of colour in spring and summer that rests and becomes lethargic in winter to survive the harsh weather conditions in Madrid at this time of year.
